Writing Every Day

Just five minutes a day is all my mind is repeating this week because I didn’t follow the advice of other creators when it comes to store launches. A few people that I’ve followed said not to launch new items in your store after a big event, I should have listened because most of my inventory was sold. This is more than a good problem to have but also a little stressful because I will spend another week with late nights to add new products to my store.

I realize this is the same commitment as writing a novel or having the job of being a writer, and that’s why I’m sharing. Writing is a business and you need to show up every day even if you only have 5 minutes. As I make some book themed items to sell in my online store, my mind is thinking about the progress of my story and the characters I froze in time.

I’ve been going over conflicts between characters because something always happens as characters set out to reach their final destination or achieve their goal. My character’s goal is to find a little bit of herself while going on the same journey as her grandmother. Of course, there is a love interest that’s put into her life by her grandmother. The focus is creating a love story that connects her to her grandmother, and bonds the stranger she never expected together without being too cliche or cookie cutter.

In order to work out some ideas, all I can do is keep writing. I did my exercise of working on a chapter for 5 minutes to continue to flush out a conversation between Eun Ae and her grandmother while she struggles to trust her male counterpart. My goal is to keep this up throughout the week and not feel the pressure of an entire novel at one time. Writing without stress comes from continual practice and joy, not pressure.

Even when I have a bad writing day, I know that getting it out will help me get to the point of a better final draft. There’s a reason we all cringe at the first one and call it the sh—— first draft. I hope you make time with write every day with me. I’ll keep you posted on my progress.

My posts are Monday through Friday.

I’m an author in Minnesota who started out writing and illustrating Children’s books. I’ve published poetry and adult Romance Novels. I created my website and social media to reach out to other writers because the process can be lonely. I wanted to reach out to readers, writers, and those with a dream of finishing “that” novel. I share the advice of other writers and the tools I use to create my stories.
