I was getting ready for today’s prompt when something wonderful happened. My forgetful nature of setting things down and forgetting them gave me a surprise. I hid a Valentine’s Day card for my husband in one of the books I’m reading, and it made me smile. I thought, “What a great surprise to give someone, and what a great prompt.”
I call Friday’s prompt – Love Notes. Your homework for the next few days is to surprise yourself and write love notes to yourself. I want you to grab one of your favorite books, or journals that you use every week and fill the next month with love notes. Yes, you heard me. You are going to write on Post-it notes and stick them in the pages of your book.
Write out a love quote, a line from a poem, or a line from a book, and hide it in the pages of your current read. Forget about them. Then, as you turn the pages and find one of your notes, cherish it as if it was left by one of your favorite characters. I want you to fill you life with love notes for the next month, and then see how your life or writing changes.
If you’re brave, leave love notes that encourage and inspire in a book at the library or book shop for someone to discover. Go “Dash & Lily” for a month. You can even mail cards of love to yourself or a significant other throughout the month. Don’t do it just for one day. Do it several times in February. Send thoughtful love notes to someone in your family who might be a little lonely – a grandparent.
I could go on for pages with ideas but I just want to send out one spark to make this next month more fulfilling. What better ways to follow-up the month of resolutions, than with thoughts of love. The point is to make this year better than last year, and we can’t continue to do the same thing as last year if we’re going to make it better.
If you’re love shy, then focus on the word – kindness. Make this coming month about kindness and kind notes to yourself and those around you. Make someone’s day with what you were born to do, shine with words.
My posts are Monday through Friday.
