Crunch time is here for my two authors and I’m feeling the deadline pressure. There are few more things I need to share when it comes to the hitting the publishing button, and you may want to look at the FAQs of your fellow authors who’ve used the same platform.
Why? Hitting publish isn’t the final step before you have a copy of your own book in your hands. You need to take note the amount of time that it takes for your book to be approved once it’s uploaded, reviewed by you, and your first proof copy is ordered. On Amazon, you need to wait 72 hours or more before your book is approved to be reviewed by you. Then, you need to order a proof copy. Your book will be live, and you will be able to order author copies for signing events or to gift to friends.
These last steps play into your announcements and book release media events. If you want to have a launch party, then you should probably allow enough time to receive your proof copy and author copies. For me, receiving my author copies has taken 10 business days through Amazon and I’ve cut it close to book signing events.
I was all smiles at the event but those who attended never knew that I was sweating bullets because I waiting for Amazon delivery to show up at my door. Talk about obsessing over the tracking screen. The first time, let’s just say I could have planned a little better and pushed out my event date a little later.
The deadline for my fellow, soon-to-be authors, is at the end of next month. You would think we have plenty of time but not if we need to wait for our copies. I might have to pull a late night or two before Saturday.
Before I go, I also recommend paying for the marketing promotions available in your platform. It doesn’t have to be an expensive campaign but anything will help boost your book. Any boost will help because your now in competition with all those other books. The rule is blast, blast, and blast your book again on social media and with people you know.
Well, I’m off to the publishing race. You know what I’ll be doing into the weekend.
My posts are Monday through Friday.
