Triple publishing is real this week! Corks are popping this week and you can hear the bubbles popping in front of our computers this week. All the editing rounds were approved and cover options finalized! Yes, we are authors this week! The last few nights of my week were filled with zoom meetings as we both uploaded our manuscripts and waiting for the preview button to save and continue to the final step of publishing online.
I had to laugh when one of my new authors said something about Amazon’s message to maybe go make a sandwich while the preview launcher loaded. She told me that she was going to have a beer instead of a sandwich and we both laughed. Okay, maybe it wasn’t champagne but it signified a celebration and sigh of relief to my new co-author.
Monday night, she sat through the process of publishing online and watched me upload my soon-to-be New Release, Imagine Inspire Create 52 weeks of action and gratitude. I heard her pen scratch across the paper as she took notes. Things are never as easy as the video or the tutorial when you’re new at something. She watched me save and continue, approve the preview, and fill out my pricing information.
Last night was her turn. I called her after a series of text messages and questions. Together, we tackled the pop ups and felt the exhaustion and excitement of the previous weeks. You heard it in our voices. We wanted the last part to be done but we acknowledged our journey together. This way of publishing online has transformed the writing world. Getting published didn’t require years of back and forth after our books were finished. All we had to do was take 10-15 minutes of our time to fill out some boxes and upload our work.
I have to admit that after you hit the final approval button, the experience can feel a little anti-climatic. Everything is on to the next part after you hit the button. You let the confetti fly and then it’s back to work again. I hope all of this makes sense to the writers out there.
My recommendation is to go through the tutorials of your online publishing platform. Watch the videos of others authors. Then, have a publishing zoom with another writer who went through the experience to keep you company, to guide you, and to distract you while you wait for the preview to load. Don’t forget there are websites like, Reedsy.com out there that help convert documents into ebook or kindle formats. They also offer free advice that doesn’t require a subscription.
Well, I’m off to wait for my book to get reviewed before I can order my author copy. You’ll see announcements posting this week!
My posts are Monday through Friday.
