Baby Steps

Hump day is the perfect time to provide resources for those who are lost and don’t know what to write about next.  Today, there are several resources out there and fellow authors but the danger is consuming the information and not getting anything done.  After meeting many people who say they want to write a book but never do, it’s time to get off some day island.

The upcoming month is about taking the first baby step and limiting yourself to researching, outlining, and pinning boards for one month before you post your goal numbers with writing community for November NaNoWriMo.  Sometimes joining other people who are trying to accomplish the same goal of getting published helps you feel less alone.  Everyone who’s made the best seller list had the same challenges to their book published.

Taking the advice of someone who’s accomplished what you want to achieve can move in the right direction to your idea of success.  Thinking of all those pages can fell overwhelming.  Focusing on one page at a time can help, and so can looking at to their resources because you’re going to hit a plot hole at least once during your journey.  You created a dilemma or problem for your character, now you need to help them find a resolution.  Finding a way to do this without making the path too obvious for the reader can be challenging.

When you hit a hole and feel stuck, find out how other writers found the solution for their characters.  What do you love about their story?  What would you change?  And how can you make it in your voice?  These are questions to think about as you build your story.  Below are more resources for your own favorite list.

I’m an author in Minnesota who started out writing and illustrating Children’s books. I’ve published poetry and adult Romance Novels. I created my website and social media to reach out to other writers because the process can be lonely. I wanted to reach out to readers, writers, and those with a dream of finishing “that” novel. I share the advice of other writers and the tools I use to create my stories.
