There’s only a few days left before Preptober begins and fingers will be flying all over the world as writers prepare to join NaNoWriMo. What are your goals for the month of November? If you haven’t participated in either, then this is your introduction. There’s no right approach or way to join in the next few months.
What is Preptober? I’ve been sharing my idea of list building but many writers use the month of October to gather their research, work on their outlines, and set the bare bones of their chapters. On social media you will find pages littered with storyboards, outlines, and exercises. This month is a writing prompter’s dream, and this is the month that launched my blog in 2020.
The past few years I’ve participated in NaNoWriMo, which takes place online every November, but the universe always knew I had a specific number and goal. Life always decides to throw a curveball. The experience was better last year because I actually managed to get some writing done and post just about every day of the month.
My goal for this year is get over my need to redo the entire story after thousands of pages. I need to keep the fingers on the keyboard and stick to my bare bones outline. My novel is crying to be finished or in first draft form by the end of the year.
The inner tough of war with creating art and finishing a novel will battle in the next few months because the upcoming holidays have my head filled with ideas. I don’t know which muse will win the stage at the end of the day but I’m pretty sure it’s the one I’m not trying to complete for a challenge because my brain isn’t normal. I pay attention to one creative outlet and the other starts begging for attention.
Let’s get plotting over the next few days so that we can keep steady at the beginning of next month.
I’ll share my results from Preptober next month. My posts are Monday through Friday.
