I’m up here in the extremes this week. Minnesota went from upper 90s to low 70s and I had to turn off my air yesterday. The sudden cool off felt like I stepped into fall a month too early and I had goose bumps walking around downtown. How can we go from melted pancakes on the sidewalk to popsicles that don’t melt in the sun in a few days?
My only answer is that this is Minnesota and I can only hope that this isn’t a sign of what’s to come because I want a fall season. A long fall with changing leaves that turn gold, red, and all the shades of orange. That’s right I want 50 shades of orange this fall. I have no idea what Mother Nature will have in store for us up here but I’m tired of meeting the angry one.
Back to the topic of writing. After my share on Tuesday, I’m wondering if my short was too long because my fellow bloggers haven’t caught up on it yet. I guess that’s one thing to remember when posting to social media. My posts also go to Facebook and I may have gone over the word limit with that one. The silence of the post also made me wonder if other people’s attention span has altered like mine. I’m just as guilty of not staying too long on a long post on my social media.
Hopefully, I’ll get some feedback from fellow writers soon. And yes, it will crush me if the words aren’t kind. Why lie about it. No matter what anyone tells you, we do get upset about negative reviews. So, leave the killing of character to the author.
It’s been a while since I gave a prompt this week, so I’ll refer back to my short story from this Tuesday. Choose a place to lock your characters in, such as a library, a store, or even a jail. Then write for 5-10 minutes and see what happens between them. It might actually force you to work on your dialogue.
My posts are Monday through Friday.
