Jig Day

It’s only Tuesday and I’m doing the jig in my seat. I was going to wait until the 17th but my head is filled with corned beef, cabbage, and Irish dancers. Yesterday, I spoke about taking a trip down memory lane, well I saw an ad that Riverdance was coming to Mystic Lake in Minnesota. Irish music and fast moving feet, another theme might continue this year – all kinds of dance from around the world.

For those of you who have to Wikipedia or YouTube the dance craze started by Michael Flatley, you will find clogs, tapping, and feet that move so fast your eyes can’t keep up. The stiff upper body makes their reborn style of Irish dance makes you want to put on a curly wig with a bow and clogs. I know of them because of documentaries on dance. I might have seen something similar in Vegas with all blond wigs – I guess that’s the preference out there.

The question is – can I drag my husband into going to another performance? I could call it a birthday present for us since we both celebrate in the month of May. A bit of Irish Spring wouldn’t hurt. Not to mention that it would make my mom smile. After all, it makes her Korean born child would carry of her love of the Irish. Some people believe that family is only bound by blood but I believe it’s bound by shared experiences. It’s like the universe told my parents they were missing something the day I was born.

No matter how your family comes together, there are no refunds, no returns, once you make that commitment. There might be days when child and parents look at each and wonder how this happened of they can get a break from one another but they were brought together for reason. Then, I think about how it sometimes takes tourists to appreciate a city that gets passed by locals every day.

When we’re having a moment and things aren’t going right, we need to remember our pilgrim souls. Even if we live in the same city for our entire lives, we don’t stand still in time. Our minds wander, or feet walk the streets. Sometimes, it takes getting lost to find our way home. Let your pens wander this week, get lost, travel though old memories and loves, then find yourself again.
