The start of the week began with good new over the weekend. My book editing project with two other authors took flight and they are doing well. This month was filled with media appearances and local news talk shows. All of their hard work paid off, and they have the connections to make a bigger splash. But what if you don’t have all those connections?
All isn’t lost if you don’t have connections through television and radio. There’s still an opportunity because news channels, newspapers, and other media outlets are always looking for stories to share. Pitch them anyway be open because chances are you’ll have to take any time slot they have available. You might get switched at the last minute but don’t give up. Try, try and try again. If you no one tried, and didn’t get their dream contract then we might not have anything to read.
In other words, our novels might go with the current trend but the good news is that they always come back in style. Hold onto your words, keep improving, and you never know a contest or an opportunity will pop up at the right time. I can’t tell you how many times, I wished I would have kept going with one of my stories because I saw a contest for that genre but my manuscript wasn’t done.
During the quiet hours we need to keep ourselves busy and our fingers moving across the keyboards. That’s one of the reason’s I got out of habit. I let my habit of writing stop for a few days here and there, then it turned into months and years. Forcing myself to sit in that seat and type even if I didn’t feel like it paid off. Some of the stories that sat inside undeveloped were finally unleashed in the past few years.
Getting into the habit of writing every day can be daunting but I thought I would share another helpful tip this week. We’re going to call this review week. Take a browse through your old scribbles, notes, and journals and gather inspiration. Rewrite a page if your mind is blank. We’re taking a literary trip through memory lane this week.
My posts are Monday through Friday.
