Friday is here and I have a date with a few books. Instead of a night out in a fancy dress and heels, I’m curling up with popcorn and few good books. I need to return to my story bubble to get back into the novel I started to rework at the beginning of the year.
This weekend, I’m might sink into the sofa and drown in all things Paris. I need to feel myself walk the streets, and have my shoes pad across the stones. I need to breath in the crisp air and the wet smell of moldy river as I cross over the many bridges. My beloved Mansard blue roofs still remind me of where I am and I turn down another street. My feet wander like a lost cat.
I see myself pause to admire the shop windows, and my mouth waters as I pass boulangeries around every corner. I stop and drool at the decorated pastries. I’m looking for a quiet corner, a chair at a cafe where I can doodle and write. Maybe then, my fingers will begin to tap the keyboard as I feel like I’m really there, another time, another place.
Just like my story, I’ll stand on the platform of the station and wait for my stranger to step and greet me again. His eyes smile back at me as he found me again for the first time and my heart lifts as we walk toward each other. No time has passed. He’s a the young man who stopped for me, and I’m the young girl whose eyes only saw him. His lips curved upward like a new secret. I smile back as if I know it. Know him.
The crowd pauses and parts in recognition of our time together, the second hand on the clock stops for a second too. One, two, three. Just one silent dance together in a lonely train car. The noise in background surrounds us again and no one knows we’ve been together. One moment of recognition and than our eyes drift away knowing we can’t be together. Our secret rendezvous ended. We’re strangers again and no one knows why there’s a smile on our faces as we walk in opposite directions through the station.
My posts are Monday through Friday.
