All this talk of publishing and book marketing sent my mind into a spin. I still have one book to go and I’m trying to hang onto my brain before it sputters to a stop. Last night, I needed a reminder of why I continue to go through this book journey over and over again. I walked through the best seller shelf and new books in my closest book store. Looking through the windows and imagine your books sitting in the window display keep us motivated.
As I turned the corners of the new hard covers, I saw a sign that made me blink. They actually have a take labeled, BookTok. It’s the reason I follower readers and other authors on TikTok. So many writers have finally made sales because of this social media platform, and anything that get us closer to our publishing dream is worth exploring. I’ve posted my unboxing videos and I need to come up with a list of more BookToks.
Many of the shorts on TikTok had me laugh because many of us post videos on what it’s really like to be a writer. A plot hole becomes a short piece of horror. Not to mention that we can make fun ourselves. Many of us have the intent of sitting down and writing but we get distracted by – social media and everything else other than writing. Sometimes, my dishes finally get washed and the vacuum gets a workout before I’m finally in my seat.
Any writer will tell you that when they’re working on a novel, their house has never been cleaner. Have some fun with our funny little habits. Don’t get so stressed out that you send yourself into lockdown. We’ve had enough of that in the past few years.
Today is about giving your fingers a break and do something other than writing. Yes, this is your prompt. I might continue to watch my fellow foodies as they drizzle chocolate over piped pastries and light whipped cream. I’m jealous of the hot liquid because I can’t take a bite out of my screen. This might have to turn into a scene, a memory for a future chapter.
My posts are Monday through Friday.
