Summer Mode

The beginning of my summer is kicking off with a visit to mom and dad for quiet time out in the northern country. Staying out in a place where the city lights are glaring behind curtains and fire trucks are racing down the street go quiet.

The first night out of the city feels odd and unfamiliar. Traffic and bustle are replaced with the sound of a running river and loud frogs singing to each other. I only hope that the unofficial Minnesota State bird, the mosquito, is still in hibernation. What can I say, I have a sweet personality.

I could get used to the country and follow the whole cottage core crowd. My alternate universe consists of hobbit homes, green plants that water themselves, and bubbling springs. I could go full hobbit in a forest with hand-carved bookshelves where every nook and cranny is filled. Staring out into a magical world that looks unspoiled is a dream in this world.

Then, the inner struggle begins. Fading away from the world to blend in with Mother Nature is tempting but this summer is asking myself if I pushed myself far enough. Okay, maybe one more birthday sparked a mini mid-life crisis. Let’s face it. The clock keeps clicking. While I wish my parents, friends, and family could live forever we are in a world that doesn’t stop.

I don’t want regrets later. So this summer is about being brave, taking risks, and not being afraid of change. I say change instead of fail because trying something new and different isn’t a failure. It’s something that I know makes us who we are.

Instead of following those who play it “safe” their whole life, I’m making a change to explore my creativity. Yes, I did write down a list just like making a list of prompts so that I keep myself moving. The start of a new journey seems to be going well because I managed to the life prompts on my list completed.

Hopefully, I can keep this going and I don’t brains with the squirrels that play ring around the tree outside my window. Wish me luck in my kind of new summer mode.

What’s your prompt for the summer? Get some of those to-do’s off your bucket list.

My summer mode posts will continue a few times a week! Until the next post!

I created my website and social media to reach out to other writers because the process can be lonely. I wanted to reach out to readers, writers, and those with a dream of finishing “that” novel. I share the advice of other writers and the tools I use to create my stories.
