Happy Monday

The has begun and I spent all weekend making miniature figurines with needle tools and sparkling dust. This is show week and I had to start out start by making a post.

Somehow I managed to fit in a morning out for breakfast with all those celebrating Mother’s Day early. We had to wait longer for our food but I wanted my French toast and croissant sandwich. I’ve been going down the menu at one my go-to pastry spots.

As I filled my belly I watched all the sons, husbands, and those picking up quiches to go wait patiently with their families. I couldn’t quite relax with all the action and the extra long line behind us to put in an order. We were in such a hurry that my husband almost walked out with a loaf of bread. He stepped out of line and forgot to hand it to me as I paid for everything. The length of the line never grew shorter so we decided to put it back on the shelf and pick up a loaf at another bakery.

Finally back at home I was able to relax and let all the yummy food settle at the bottom of my belly. There’s nothing like the smell of warm bread, butter, and melted sugar. I almost closed my eyes but the determination to create a new miniature figurine called me back to my desk. I spent the last part of the evening hand sculpting a shimmer and colorful fantasy owl.

I smiled at the big round eyes when I was done. Creating something and having it turn out the way I pictured tugged at my heart. I didn’t want to sell it and that’s how I knew I had a good piece. I feel the same way about my writing. I might want to be selfish with my work but I know the point is to share it.

So, when you go to those writing sessions with other writers or events, remember to share. Talk about your work. Sometimes talking it loud about your story is the only way to understand if it makes sense. If you can’t repeat the point out loud, then you may have to rethink what you want to say.

Your prompt for this week is all about scheduling some time to meet with other writers. Go to a book event. Connect with your fellow story tellers. I’ll be connecting this weekend with artists and writers. Maybe I’ll see you at the Minneapolis Art-A-Whirl this weekend.

As I get ready for another event my posts will be limited and will return to Monday to Friday next month.
