Today is our traditional family Thanksgiving and this year my husband was blessed with a matching sweater that says, “Gobble until you wobble!” I had to include another holiday so that we show up to family events matching. Christmas always includes our matching ugly sweaters.
We arrived at my parents late last night after I ran around putting together some Etsy orders from our online stores. I’m very thankful for the support and the orders but I wasn’t quite prepared after a months of going to art and craft events. My boxes weren’t packed as neatly as I thought but they managed to make it out the door.
Then, our drive across the border to Wisconsin started and as we near the shortest day of the year it’s pitch black in some parts of the country. I felt like I was driving at midnight instead of 7:00 pm.
My husband and I emptied our bags of presents and decorations before we sat down to a few card games with my parents. There’s nights when we’re up late trying to win 1 more round, as it’s women against men. My mom and I aren’t very good losers as we often harass my husband and dad. But it’s all fun and games and a way to relax after a long week.
This morning I woke up to clanking dishes as food gets prepared. My parents always make the turkey and sides early so that all I have to do is make the gravy and add a few more sides to the row of crock pots. Yes, holidays up here mean a buffet of crock pots.
The afternoon will match the phrase on our sweaters as we visit and maybe playa few more card games. Traditions might be simple but don’t forget to have some fun as the years go on. Throw in matching outfits or new games.
I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! I’ll post again soon!
During the months of November and December I will be posting but only a few times a month so that I can work on my writing.
