I hope a second day of working on the first paragraphs of your chapters helped inspire and get you thinking about your novel. The pages in your folder should be growing in size and it’s time for us to add in more layers to our story.
Day #20 is all about asking the question of what’s missing. Take a deep look at your outline, your points of interest, and the beginning of your chapters. Are there critical details missing that would build on your novel?
Today can be about strengthening the imagery, building on the reader’s feelings, and fine tuning the actions of our characters. Do your best to focus on details without describing. Describing creates a monotone like voice that bores our audience.
Readers like to see their surroundings clearly, they like to place themselves in the shoes of the hero. Can you place yourself in your own story? Does everything make sense or are there bumps along the way. Characters see, hear, taste, feel as in touch, smell, and they feel with emotions.
Think about missing pieces and spend the day filling them in. Then, give your mind a break. Preptober will continue through the end of the month.
My posts are Monday through Friday.
