Minnesota Summer

Summer in Minnesota means getting into your car and having your makeup begin to melt before the air conditioning didn’t cool off the inside. The humidity up here can make your skin prune without taking a bath. It’s like being in a sauna while your outside trying to enjoy the outdoors. We put up with it because the warmth of the sun is precious and only lasts a few months.

Every year we brace ourselves for the inevitable snow drifts, below zero freezes, and starting our cars in the middle of the night to warm our engines. I used to buy winter boots for fashion but after a few parking lot slips and ice storms I decided I don’t care. I joined the Eskimo and I look like the Michelin Man when winter hits. I have a hat and ear muffs on and boots that add to my two layers of winter socks.

Just the thought of freezing my butt off when I’m all bundled up during winter cooled me off a little in the summer heat. Like I’ve said before, I’m still up North because I sleep better in the cold and I’m not a camel. My body tends to run cold and if it’s too hot I go into sloth mode that’s sweating like a wet sponge.

On hot days, drive-thru ice cream cones are a must and so is brain freeze. This year I had a plan to walk around at outdoor events and flea markets to get exercise and spend time in the sun to get my mind off of the heat but it’s been cool and windy on the days picks which kind of defeat the purpose. Go figure.

I guess I’ll just have to find some more things to go see in my home state during the summer months. Good thing we have the State Fair coming up in August. I still think we have the best one up here. Others that say they’re better are more antique/flea market style when we’re all the food you can eat on a stick, rides, large concerts, food buildings, international bizarre area, local artist area, kids rides, beer gardens, gadget buildings, farm animals, horse shows, and more than I can fit. You can even ride our Ferris wheel at night to take in all the different sights, or ride the skyboxes to watch everyone below. For two weeks, we will our stomachs and walk around for miles to see what’s new this week.

I hope you get the chance to come see our State Fair for yourself. If you do, message me and I’ll see if our days match up. And let me know if you have anything interesting in your state that’s worth a road trip.

I’m an author in Minnesota who started out writing and illustrating Children’s books. I’ve published poetry and adult Romance Novels. I created my website and social media to reach out to other writers because the process can be lonely. I wanted to reach out to readers, writers, and those with a dream of finishing “that” novel. I share the advice of other writers and the tools I use to create my stories.
