Juneteenth

Today I’m still taking time to celebrate Juneteenth and freedom from slavery. Being from Minnesota and recent news headlines in the past few years, we need to pause to remember why this country was founded. Everyone deserves their freedom and the right to pursue happiness.

Having grown up in the suburbs of Minneapolis, and looking like someone else of a different culture I take today seriously. I’ve grown up and speak like a Minnesotas and I should be included as a Minnesotan. But sometimes, people make the wrong kind of assumptions, or just bully and discriminate, and I’ve been on the receiving end of them because I don’t have the Scandinavian blond hair and blue eyes.

Not that it should matter but if I were to wear contacts and blue wig, you wouldn’t know the difference. To be honest sometimes I forget that I look different in a crowd of “Scandanavia types”, and I shouldn’t know that I look a little different because it shouldn’t matter. But we live in a world with all kinds of people, some good, some confused, some stupid, some smart, and some who are just plain rotten.

While I would like to have my Bruce Lee moment and kick their a—- when they say something unbecoming, I do my best to be a decent human being. I figure there’s too many a—-holes in the world already. As the radio station I listen to says, “if you can’t find someone who’s nice, then be one.”

So, take a moment today and appreciate what today means for everyone. As an artist, I wanted to repaint everyone’s skin with mood paint, then think of how much more interesting our day would be. Then, we would just avoid people in the wrong mood and for no other reason.

My posts are Monday through Friday.

I’m an author in Minnesota who started out writing and illustrating Children’s books. I’ve published poetry and adult Romance Novels. I created my website and social media to reach out to other writers because the process can be lonely. I wanted to reach out to readers, writers, and those with a dream of finishing “that” novel. I share the advice of other writers and the tools I use to create my stories.
