Return To Why?

I’m almost to the end of the week and I have to pat myself on the back due to the crazy busy schedule but I don’t have anyone else to blame. I’m the one who decided to sign up for events, and then launch new products in my online store the week afterward. I have to say that I’m very thankful for all the people who supported all of us artists at the event. Whether you write stories or have other interests, it’s always a good feeling when what your creations find a home.

Somewhere my book characters and handmade miniature sculptures are sitting in the nook of someone’s home. Buying and supporting another creative always gives me that boost of serotonin that outdoes any shopping spree or splurge on my regular treats. Knowing that someone could believe their dream can come true brings a smile to my face. It’s the kind of feeling that we need more of in our bubbles because I’m tired of the normal news.

Writers entertain and pull people into new worlds so that they escape from the “normal”. We spur imagination and as we turn the page, we can make people believe that anything is possible. We can guarantee that the hero wins over the villain. Nerds can get their revenge over school bullies more often. We can also talk about injustices that other people are too afraid or uncomfortable to talk about out loud. We also have the power to bring back facts that aren’t meant to persuade.

As you’re writing today, think back to the reason you started. Think about the story you wanted to tell and why. What was the power of the moment? Return to the real essence of your writing. Write about the “why” for 5-10 minutes. Then, check your writing heartbeat. I bet it’s pulse picked up. Don’t stop. Keep writing. We’re one day away.

My posts are Monday through Friday.

I’m an author in Minnesota who started out writing and illustrating Children’s books. I’ve published poetry and adult Romance Novels. I created my website and social media to reach out to other writers because the process can be lonely. I wanted to reach out to readers, writers, and those with a dream of finishing “that” novel. I share the advice of other writers and the tools I use to create my stories.
