I had to blink twice when I looked at the number counter for in Evernote for my posts because I reached 502. I’ve blogged the equivalent of 38,000 words when all of my posts are combined. Basically, I’ve written the length of a novel and I should celebrate!
Feeling like someone in a recovery group for writers, I actually am jumping up and down with joy. My plan a few years ago to get back into the habit of writing with a 30 day challenge gave birth to a new habit. I say new because before I stopped writing, I was never writing every day. My inner voice and pages went silent and empty. I felt like all those things I’ve wanted to say died inside.
But I never gave up and neither should you! When you think you’re going on empty, there are ways to fill up. There are other writers who’ve been in the same place, like me. There is a way to pick up your pen again, and more consistently. I kept going with my 30 day challenges and developed a writing rhythm that gave me a few days play. In order to keep myself motivated, I started to publish my journey back into the process by publishing my Journals and the feeling was addicting.
I opened myself up to new possibilities and what I thought about the word “published”. This lead me to helping other writers get published. My name might show as an editor, or not at all but I’m in there somewhere. I will tell you again – it’s important to keep your mind open during the journey of becoming a published author. You can publish books that don’t take years to write to get familiar with the entire process and to fulfill that need inside to see your name on printed book. You can become a ghost writer, you can publish an article, or a poem. Just get your name and work out there.
The only real way to become an author is to publish something! Just remember to go through the editing process so that you’re putting your best work out there. Did I mention the word action? You can’t have that best seller without it. This leads me to your prompt for today. Remember that notebook and everything you’ve been writing down? Well, take action on one of those to-do’s.
My posts are Monday through Friday.
