I don’t know about you but my week has been full of writing activities and I’m ready for a break this weekend. I’ve been up until the midnight hour every day this week to finish more edits and tweaking of book cover designs. Some how I managed to find the energy to share some of my own writing prompts after 5-10 minutes of writing.
This is year is all about rhythm of routine, and practice to bring me forward into new discoveries as a writer. One thing is certain, the process of publishing requires a whole new skill set and patience. You want to hit the publish button so badly but you know you need to be patient to proof things one more time. Yes, it’s good to create deadlines but you also need to be flexible with them because there will always be delays due to changes but they are worth the wait.
In talking with my other writers, one thing that we wish would revert back to previous years is the wait it takes for books to be reviewed on Amazon. As one of the biggest book publishers, their 72 hour wait for a book to be reviewed by the system before you can approve and order your first author copy has extended in 5 days. The last 2 years have doubled the numbers of writers publishing, I guess that’s one good thing of being at home more often. We had more time to finish our novels but that also increases competition and wait times.
The growth of some platforms mean that all the social media posting and blogging is an important process of being a writer. We need a place to hold our links and make our announcements. If you can share your journey, or offer advice that’s even better. I know some of us just want to stay hidden behind their writing devices but we can’t. Competition is too fierce and we should be letting the world know about our new books.
This might be selfish but my mind is hungry for new stories, so we have to keep publishing. I’m one of those who wants to know about your book. All the millions of books tells us that there’s an infinite number of ways to tells our stories and put our words together. Keep challenging yourself as a writer.
Now, I’m off to rest until the next change pops up in my email that will result in another copy to review. I feel like I’m in a ping pong match of proofs. Maybe this is a new prompt for us. Send your prompt back and forth between different writers and see what the results are. The good thing as that we all in win in the end when we hit the publishing button. I wish everyone the best in their writing journey this weekend.
My posts are Monday through Friday.
