Just a few more days to the weekend and excitement is the air for fellow authors. The two soon to be new authors I’m helping just informed me that they’re getting their website ready for launch day! After I finish a few more rounds of proofs, it’s time to help new authors with the hardest part – what happens after you hit the publish button.
We spend years bleeding ourselves into our pages, and then we realize that someone needs to let people know that our book exists. Whether you choose traditional or self-publishing you need to market yourself. The best time to build your platform that shares your book is before you start your book. Social media makes things easier than paying for ads or joining other literary groups because you can do it online. No need to drive to a local book club – although that’s still a good idea if you have the time.
Start letting people know that you’re a writer on Facebook, Tiktok, etc. Share the books you’re reading and what you’re working on. There’s a community of readers and writers out there that are always looking to connect and pick-up your book.
I’ll let you in on a hint – writers like to read each other. We’re our own fan club, and we understand what goes into publishing a book. We also share advice, and make better beta readers. So, start getting connected and follow the advice I gave to my fellow soon-to-be-authors, open your social media accounts and start sharing so that people know you exist.
Following up on promises from my blog. I sharing one of my Inktober drawings that made it into one of my top drawings with a new medium. Feel free to use it for a writing prompt today!
