Break Time!

Did you go out and howl at the moon last night? Are your word counts going up or staying flat? I think I need to lock my art supplies away during this month. It’s great to be creative but sometimes having other options are just like feeling the need to clean my home when I’m supposed to be writing. My one woman show can’t have everything going all at once.

I’ve tried to set aside specific times when I blog, and planned out times when I work on other things but I still have the same issues as everyone else. There’s time when I struggle to get my but in the writing seat, and keep it there long enough to write a chapter or two. Staying in the writing zone can happen but it takes work to make it a normal occurrence.

I think back to the months when I pumped out published journals and books, and managed to help someone else with their own. But I look at myself and ask, “who was this woman and how did she do it?” Then, I realize this is all normal. There are months when I’m more productive and there are some that I needed a break. Every person out there that you know, goes through this. Best sellers needs a hiatus from their books too. Our bodies break down if we’re full speed all the time.

I’ve learned this first hand. When I didn’t take a break or went on too little sleep, my body tells to stop by getting sick. Doing too much lead me to those 2 years that I couldn’t write or do anything else. I was tired. During this month, learn to pace yourself. Yes, this is a challenge month but don’t go to an extreme that breaks your body.

Plan your writing times and then plan the time when you’re going to do something else. Do something fun. Find out what makes you laugh, and it better be something good. Some of you have been locked away in your writing holes for a reason – it’s for the safety of everyone else. Maybe that made you smile.

Go out and appreciate the day!

I’m an author in Minnesota who started out writing and illustrating Children’s books. I’ve published poetry and adult Romance Novels. I created my website and social media to reach out to other writers because the process can be lonely. I wanted to reach out to readers, writers, and those with a dream of finishing “that” novel. I share the advice of other writers and the tools I use to create my stories.
