The middle of September means Halloween decorations can go up right? Well, this was the big debate that happened during a zoom group call. They were adamant that decorations shouldn’t go up before the 1st of October. The group split into two. Those who said the start of fall was symbolic and they were okay to go up, while the others insisted you have to wait until October.
Well, here is Minnesota this is like Christmas. In fact, our outside lighting and effects are beginning to rival Christmas displays. Do you put up decorations before or after Thanksgiving? Here there are some who just go by weather predictions because setting up lights outside is easier without piles of snow.
If you want to know, I was the instigator of this conversation because I said I already set out some Halloween pumpkins on shelves. I side with those who put up decorations early. For me, I’m always sad when Holidays end because I love all the lights and festivities. I’m all for having Christmas more than once a year but I don’t tell people like my mom who think of cooking all the food or getting the house ready for all the guests.
Don’t worry – she doesn’t do everything on her own. My sister hosts and my cooks some of the food – let’s just say we wouldn’t want my sister cooking. Her forte lies in sales and numbers, not being a foodie. The dinners I remember when she moved into her first house consisted of ordering pizza. I can’t blame her, she’s a busy working woman who raised children.
Writing about holidays, think of your favorite childhood memories. Did you have a favorite Halloween costume? Did you have family traditions that no one else did? How did you celebrate? Write down your thoughts for 5-10 minutes to reflect. If they weren’t that pleasant, write them down anyway.
