Word Challenge

Can you hear the Irish music playing in the background for next week? I’ve been asking myself what kind of food would faeries eat? What would their plates look like? I ask because I’m trying to put my questions into visuals and words.

I can’t continuously repeat words like magical dust, glittering, and fantasy world. When I feel lacking in words, I know it’s time to use another one of my prompts and expand my vocabulary. The search for spectacular might be for the words but the exercise is nothing extraordinary.

The only thing you have to do is get out that empty piece of paper and write down words related to your story. Adjectives, words of action, and things that make an impact. The one thing different about today is that the list is going to stay with you all day.

Your job is to fill up that piece of paper front to back with words that go beyond basic. They should still sound like your character but the whole point is to keep the focus of your story in the front of your mind until the page is filled.

Keeping yourself more conscious of your story will help you develop phrases and add some flair. Your job as a writer is improve your writing. One way to do this is learn more ways to express yourself and your characters.

You can use references, dictionaries, google, and the words of other authors (just not the whole phrase). Push yourself to see how many different ways you can say one sentence using different expressions. Carry-on into the weekend if you can.

Until next week! My posts are Monday to Friday!

I’m an author in Minnesota who started out writing and illustrating Children’s books. I’ve published poetry and adult Romance Novels. I created my website and social media to reach out to other writers because the process can be lonely. I wanted to reach out to readers, writers, and those with a dream of finishing “that” novel. I share the advice of other writers and the tools I use to create my stories.
