Day #17: Developing Relationships

Driving down the streets with colors of gold, deep red, and browns I gripped the wheel tighter as an idea came up to me. Living in Minnesota and starting my blog I didn’t just want to watch other people’s feeds of things to do up here. So, I filled up my facebook events calendars with all the happenings in different neighborhoods a drive away from where I live.

As a writer, I need experiences and exposure to my surroundings. I may not be in Vermont to make my own holiday miniseries but that doesn’t mean that I can’t get into the seasonal spirit. Each market place is a like a village of it’s own.

My plan that I started last year to bring my husband with to be able to spend more time together also continues this year. As our years together grow, I don’t want us to miss out on a having a true quality and deep relationship. Having moments that we can share together is one way to remember times that we stopped sitting at home in our sweats in separate rooms.

Developing relationships in life takes work and many mini dates no matter how long you’ve been together. As a wife, I should know what’s on his playlist so once in a while I have to let him take over the Bluetooth. When you’ve been around someone for long enough you start to get to know the details.

We’re doing the same thing in today’s Preptober exercise. Today, your going to work on the details of your relationships. We wrote down the basic essence before but it’s time to go deep. Spend the day filling in the critical moments or markers of your character relationships.

What are the moments that will bring them together? Make their relationship stronger? Are they both fighting for the same cause? Is there a moment when characters realize they love each other? Write it down.

If you feel stuck, go and ask your significant other questions? Ask them for ideas.

I’ll be busy taking videos of the changing leaves in Minnesota with my husband or walking through the fall and holiday markets. For a moment, I can pretend that I’m in my own Hallmark movie. Then, I’ll be cuddled under the blankets watching all things sappy with my husband. We’ll be like two squirrels in our own nook.

I hope you continue to find your inspiration this month.

I’m an author in Minnesota who started out writing and illustrating Children’s books. I’ve published poetry and adult Romance Novels. I created my website and social media to reach out to other writers because the process can be lonely. I wanted to reach out to readers, writers, and those with a dream of finishing “that” novel. I share the advice of other writers and the tools I use to create my stories.
