Game Change

This weekend I had to return to my handmade crafts and I finally made a change that was needed in some of my social media accounts. I separated my muses and now my art and booktok live in separate worlds. I do like to share all the different I create but I realized that time is precious and those on TikTok have a shorter attention span like me, so I took the step of creating a different account.

I know the algorithms made separate out the audiences but I wanted to make things easier for my followers who might wonder why there are art videos included in my book videos. Doing this, I had the wonderful experience of starting all over again without an audience but the shift was well worth it.

I thought this might add to the muse of tug-of-war but it actually had the opposite effect. Some of the pressure came off now that I have a separate outlet for my creative ideas and I don’t have to stop my adrenaline rush from posting after I create a new art piece. Sometimes, it’s the excitement of wanting to share what I’m working on that gets my creations over the finish line. Kind of like the out-of-sight, out-of-mind memory.

Stopping myself means that I will most likely never get that thing done because it pauses the circle of completion. Life interrupts me too many times, and I know that if I don’t do it now it’s not going to get done. My phone and notebooks are filled with too many ideas and not enough action in the past.

So don’t stop yourself today. Stop letting your to-do list collect dust. Your prompt for today is stop putting off that video or social media share. Post it and share without pause or deletion. Begin to connect and build your audience before you press publish.

My posts are Monday through Friday.

I’m an author in Minnesota who started out writing and illustrating Children’s books. I’ve published poetry and adult Romance Novels. I created my website and social media to reach out to other writers because the process can be lonely. I wanted to reach out to readers, writers, and those with a dream of finishing “that” novel. I share the advice of other writers and the tools I use to create my stories.
