A Night At the Theater

Date night is here and I’m spending the day pampering myself until it’s time to put on my lipstick and heels. One of my goals this year was to finally go to a performance that I’ve always dreamed of seeing. Minneapolis might not be Broadway but we have several theaters to stay competitive.

I’m slipping into character shoes to stop imagining and actually see dancers float across the theater floor. I wanted feathers, drama, something classic, light, a ballet with swans that dance across a lake and forest floor. A silent dance, a debt owed. Swan Lake is here and tonight evil will no longer triumph in my forest.

After a long week, I’m letting the world slip away as I put on a dress that’s been sitting in the closet. Then, as evening draws near we’re going to a fancy dinner as people we don’t recognize in the mirror. Dinner was reserved at a restaurant that has wine lockers to top customers. Dinner forks, plates, and meat dishes that melt in your mouth are going to fill out nostrils as I try to contain my excitement for the opening of the curtains.

As the light descend and the low lights flicker off the glittering dresses, winter furs, and dangling jewelry I’m going to close my eyes for the beginning of Tchaikovsky. My eyes might squint when I open them and my fake lashes might flutter before I reach for my binoculars. I bought his and hers before tonight because there weren’t many seats left when I purchased the tickets but I won’t care.

I’m there to be part of the dancers fluttering arms and the hundred of eyes looking upon them. If my dream usher so happens to choose us for a seat upgrade – well it would be a dream come true. I was supposed to travel to Broadway a few years go but you know what happened. The zoom singer was great but I prefer live. Well, I can dream.

My posts are Monday through Friday.
