Another week is here and how is everyone doing with their writing goals? I’m working on an Inspirational Journal and on project #4. My goal is to create ways for different kinds of creatives to write down their own processes to have a resource library. I didn’t think I would go down this publishing avenue but I’ve become addicted to creating resources and helping other people work through their processes.
Staying open to new possibilities, I thought I would share a book by a female entrepreneur a few years ago. Her name is Sunni Brown, and she’s a powerhouse who created her own business by focusing on the creative process with her book, Doodle Revolution: Unlock the Power to Think Differently. In her book, she shares how other leaders and top professionals used doodling to get their ideas down on paper and to open their mind to think differently.
Doodling is going down the same path as some previous shares but there seems to be an advantage to the process. When we doodle ideas, it’s associated with a “fun” activity that we don’t tend to edit. I don’t know about you but it takes a lot of effort on my part to stop myself from editing, especially if I’m going to share my work after a writing prompt.
As a writer, exploring new ways to work on your chapters, create a storyline, or tell a story will help you through times when you run into blocks. Changing the way you approach the story may help you work out the problem because you’re opening your mind. Not editing may help you get closer to getting your story finished – one of my weaknesses. I’m the never ending story editor.
Maybe we all need to return to grade school to regain our power center of creativity. If we keep an open mind when we create then we may discover new talents and new stories. Who knows you may doodle your way to a new book. Let’s write outside the lines and margins this week, and spice up our stories.
