Note Taking Week

A new month has begun and there were no April Fools in the office because I’m the only one here in my studio. Two big shows are looming in the middle of the month and my fingers have been reluctant to get back into work mode.

Being up here in Minnesota, I could always blame it on the weather. Spring is supposed to be here but we’re being taunted. Winter sort of showed up and then never wants to let go when it’s time for flowers to bloom. The skies are gray and the forecast shows more snow showers in April. Every Minnesotan is looking up and asking why? Why can’t you, winter, just let go?

Needless to say, my blinds are closed and I feel like I need a sun lamp to cheer me on. I am not feeling that burst of energy this week. I’m not looking to recreate that 9 to 5 I quit a few months ago with another job I’m not enthusiastic about. No more burn out in any job I have.

Despite the sluggish start to my days, my brain cells must be firing because I started a new story. Or, I should say that I started over on a story ideas that I had a few years ago. It kept me up until 3:00 am on Sunday. Maybe that’s why I was so tired. But I’m not going to be too hard on myself. Any time those words come out, it’s a celebration as a writer.

I think our fear, as holders of the pen, is that one day those words will stop. But never fear, if you’ve been following my blog there are ways to fill up that ink well again. I guess my point for today is that you shouldn’t be too hard on yourself if you go a while without being able to write. Think of it as a brain break.

If you can’t build up full sentences, then use the prompt to jot down some notes. Use bullet points if that would help. Random words can be used later. Single words and phrases can also go into that jar or notebook. Then, review them at the end of the week and try to put them into a paragraph or two. This is your prompt of that week. Take notes and then write.

I’m an author in Minnesota who started out writing and illustrating Children’s books. I’ve published poetry and adult Romance Novels. I created my website and social media to reach out to other writers because the process can be lonely. I wanted to reach out to readers, writers, and those with a dream of finishing “that” novel. I share the advice of other writers and the tools I use to create my stories.
