Getting lost in my own city of Minneapolis, Minnesota, was like unlocking a time capsule. After we found parking around the corner from the Mill City Farmers Market, I felt like a child again and I was discovering all things around me.
We passed the red sign for the Mill City Museum and stopped for coffee on the corner of the market at with a trio playing live music in the front of the market. My eyes were drawn through the window of restaurant on the corner toward the brightly colored flower stalls in the distance as I listened to the hissing and grinding of the coffee machine.
Since we were there a little before 9:00 am most the city was still asleep. Only the early risers were pursuing through the market stalls as a few cars puttered past. The saxophone, trombone, and guitar played with their guitar case open as we strolled past the entrance.
My nose lead the way and our first stop was at a bread and pastry stall for a ham and cheese croissant, and gooey blueberry pull apart bread. I had to pull myself away from all the delicious looking treats and stop myself from buying everything. The red breakfast food truck didn’t help either.
My mission was to try everything I could for a full experience. I mean, someone had to do it. Luckily for my husband, my eyes are bigger than my stomach and he always has to eat my left overs. We usually end up only buying 1 thing for the two of us.
There were too many temptations. I stopped for soft baked pretzels to take home and a kombucha to help digest all the food I tried. The fresh wood fire grill pizza also looked mouthwatering but my stomach was full from the fresh bagel breakfast sandwich we just tried. A small jar of fresh strawberry jam filled out pockets. My only mistake was forgetting to bring a bag, and no one was selling any.
To walk off the foods I just stuffed in my tummy, I was determined to take a walk across the Stone Arch bridge. I dodged a few bikes and runners but overall the skyline of Minneapolis along the river felt like I was unwrapping my city again. I was constantly snapping photos with my phone so that I wouldn’t forget the shapes of buildings, the sound of rushing river water, and the sound of city life.
Of course, all the activity lead to an afternoon nap but I was pretty pleased at my little market find in the middle of the city that was just made for Saturday mornings. I might have to add a market stall story into my future shorts.
How did your weekend go? Did you get to slow down? I hope you take time to just immerse yourself in your surroundings this week!
