Little Bit of Literary Life

Just when I thought all things literary went dead on Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis I walked into a new independent bookstore. Strive Books made a quiet opening and may be in the beginning stages of reviving literacy downtown but it’s a start.

When Barnes and Noble moved out with many struggling businesses in the heart of downtown, I started to see a ghost town. The life that once thrived in the busy streets before the last few years was slowly being sucked out. Yet, there are a few brave souls who pop up and try to breathe life into a disappearing landscape.

I can only continue to visit, post, and buy. I hope something transforms the city I used to know. Being a small business owner, I know every little bit of support helps. Maybe some giant will come in and make another attempt.

Maybe my desire to sit in the window of bookstore and people watch with a cup of coffee is a little selfish. But I still love real books and the trinkets that come along with them.

So when you’re out and about this weekend, remember to support all things small because they can make a big difference in breathing life into the places we live.

You can find Strive Books at 902 Nicollet Ave in Minneapolis. They are open from 10:00- 4:00 pm, Tuesday through Saturday.

I’m an author in Minnesota who started out writing and illustrating Children’s books. I’ve published poetry and adult Romance Novels. I created my website and social media to reach out to other writers because the process can be lonely. I wanted to reach out to readers, writers, and those with a dream of finishing “that” novel. I share the advice of other writers and the tools I use to create my stories.
