The month of May is here and starting off busy in my studio. I have 2 more large art events coming up in the next few weeks and my home is stacked with boxes of supplies and pieces wrapped in layers of bubble wrap. I knew the crazy pace I wanted to set this year was going to be tough but the reality is always a test.
While I try to keep myself going and prevent burnt-out mode is a delicate balance. There are days I drag myself to my studio desk just to finish one piece so that I’m not woken up in the middle of the night out of guilt. Even doing one step is better than nothing.
Does this sound similar to the purpose of my blog and prompts? Well, it is. In fact, I sat my but down this evening a few hours before midnight to get in a few paragraphs just to get back into my weekly habit of writing. In my mind, blogging, writing a few sentences, or using a few word prompts is better than letting my internal well go dry.
Last night before I closed my eyes, I thought about the process of writing and what song writers go through when they’re trying to come up with new material. Somewhere in the hazy past of my mind I thought of an old show that used the title of “Sugar Rush” for one of their pop songs.
Well, the words “Sugar Rush” are going to be our prompt for today. Just like a song writer, we’re going to write for 5-10 minutes using that phrase. Create a haiku, a short poem, a short anything. Just write to get in some practice!
My blogs times may vary for the next few weeks but the important thing is that I’m here. My Monday through Friday posts will return regularly at the end of May!
