Day 2 of Old Stories

Today is Day #2 of working on an old story that needed to be dusted off from your manuscript pile. If you didn’t have time yesterday, then you have another day to get writing. Hopefully, the weekend will give you time to curl up up under some covers and move your plot along.

I know this weekend I’ll be working on more handmade items and going into a fantasy world thinking about my story as I turn out more pieces. Since I don’t have plans, there’s more freedom in what I can do and where I can go.

Sitting here I wonder if my husband would ever let me dress him up in different clothing and take him out in public so that I can write about him. Using a life model, other than myself might change my writing. I can sit and stare at him from a distance. I don’t know if this qualifies as role playing for a marriage but it’s something I’m considering for the sake of my writing and my art.

I don’t think he would go for the extreme costumes, such a Fae warrior prince but he might put on different styles of clothing that he’s not used to wearing that fall in the “range” of somewhat normal. He can brainstorm, while I get out my pen or iPad. Two couples just drawing inspiration from each other in the corner of a cafe.

One prompt I have left to try is starting a piece and then handing it off to someone who’s not a writer to fill for 5 minutes. This might be a handy tool if you’re really feeling stuck.

I guess the point of today is to explore and change up where or how your writing. It might breath new life into the stories you never finished. The story is there, it just needs more dusting off. Keep writing today and good luck! I hope I gave you enough ideas!

I’m an author in Minnesota who started out writing and illustrating Children’s books. I’ve published poetry and adult Romance Novels. I created my website and social media to reach out to other writers because the process can be lonely. I wanted to reach out to readers, writers, and those with a dream of finishing “that” novel. I share the advice of other writers and the tools I use to create my stories.
