Writing Twists

Seeing the ballet over the weekend had me think about curses. What if you were turned into a swan and couldn’t talk to the person you loved or had a crush on? Many people don’t need a fairytale or performance because this is their reality. How many times have you chickened out and couldn’t talk to your crush? You’re walking down the hall and see the man of your dreams and then suddenly turn in the opposite direction.

I know many can relate to going mute as soon as the person you like is near. This is so common that our novels and tv episodes are filled with them. What about those times when someone has a friend speak to the their crush for them and they end up dating? Yes, those soul crushing moments when life turns on you fill TikTok every day.

Today, is going to be short. It’s time to write a not so happy scene. Write about your character not getting that they want or having someone else get what they want with a little bit of a cruel twist. The dark side of me would have something a little evil happen to the rival and turn things back around but that’s just me. You decide if you want to have a happy ending. Just get writing!

My posts are Monday through Friday.

I’m an author in Minnesota who started out writing and illustrating Children’s books. I’ve published poetry and adult Romance Novels. I created my website and social media to reach out to other writers because the process can be lonely. I wanted to reach out to readers, writers, and those with a dream of finishing “that” novel. I share the advice of other writers and the tools I use to create my stories.
