This weekend was make-up melting weather but I made it outside of my air-conditioned space a few times for some extra exercise and to meet with my new literary friends again. My meeting with them on Saturday lifted my heart. A wide grin spread across my face when they looked at their 269 page manuscript all formatted, edited, and with comments for review. Writers get a special feeling in their gut when they see the black binder clip holding everything they spent months working on. Publishing day is one more step away.
Our meeting consisted of sharing stories, asking hard questions about loss, and our eyes welling when we had to go over the tragic moments in the novel. We spent 3 hours talking and nibbling on food. My warm fajita omelette never tasted better as we made it one closer to the finish line. The thought of being able to hit the publish button sent a continuous ripple of energy around the table. Seeing the smiles in their faces lifted my soul a little more because I was helping someone else’s dream come true.
All of those endless hours of learning how to format, use styles, and design school paid off this weekend. I went made this year and got into the habit of being able to publish. I’ve worked through the “cannot format” or upload issues with my head down. Who knew that hours of standing in line at design school for an 11×17 color poster to print would end up being useful. My use of too many layers help me find work-arounds. Knowing that I can use what I’ve learned to help other authors put their work out there is only that much more inspiring to keep up the habit.
So, if any of you are struggling out there – remember to reach out to your fellow writers. It’s okay to send real questions in our messages. (Just keep them kind).
Now, the question is whether or not I will meet my goal of publishing my next journal this month and make my deadline for my art show. Yes, part of weekend was at the art store picking up more supplies.
My posts are Monday through Friday. You can find a copy of my new Writer’s Journal at https://www.amazon.com/Writers-Journal-Writing-Prompts-Notes/dp/B0931QRL7C.
