The Next Read…

My ears must have been starved because I’m on a binge of words. The Lost Bookshop, by Evie Woods is going into my best reads shelf. A little bit of magic, love, loss, and characters that stand on the pages. What book lover wouldn’t want to become the custodian of a magical bookshop that needs it’s keeper as much as they needed to hear the words hidden inside?

Lives of the past wove together that left me smiling on the last page. I looked for another book by the same author but it’s waiting to be finished. Ugh. Apparently, the author also used a pseudonym but when I went to make the purchase online, the books were out of print. Another ugh came out of my lips. I added the next release to my wishlist and scoured the online shelves for something similar.

The one thing about reading a good book is that it’s awakening the writer in me. I should celebrate but I have two large back-to-back art shows coming up this month. I don’t have time to write but that’s when my writing muses suddenly pop back into my life. Sometimes, their impatience starts to fill my head with so many stories, I’m left awake at night thinking of the rough and dusty manuscripts I have sitting in a box.

Imagine if the things that inspire us had form and breath. I can see my muses dancing around my piles, trying desperately to get my attention. They’re like impatient children wanting to be heard right then and there. Often, they have tantrums at the most inconvenient time. Adults even those self employed have obligations.

What good are muses, if I can’t pay the rent. Too bad they don’t spend all their time completing all the marketing, blogging, and gaining followers so that I don’t have decide which task I can do today.

But I don’t have any complaints. If someone were to ask me if I’m happy, then I would give them a huge smile and say, “Yes!” I’m doing what I love but I still wish I had more time in the day to keep doing it. I still deal with nights of terrible sleep and the ordinary things adults have to do if they can’t hire someone else to do it. The important thing is that something else on my list of dreams has been crossed out.

Following my dreams and doing what I love for a living is a reality this year. I’m not keeping a 9-5 side hustle anymore. Yes, it can be scary because I still have to pay bills but the pros still outweigh the cons.

To quiet my writing muses, I started listening to, The Echo of Old Books by Barbara Davis. My husband would laugh if he knew that all this binging on books about book shops makes me want to open some shop of my own. I guess I know that I’m reading a good book if I’m transported into the story so much that I want a little enchanted book shop of my own. I’m terrible that way. I easily persuaded with good words.

Well, I’m off to another world and another book shop in the background as I get ready for my art shows. I hope you’re finding good reads this spring!

I’m an author in Minnesota who started out writing and illustrating Children’s books. I’ve published poetry and adult Romance Novels. I created my website and social media to reach out to other writers because the process can be lonely. I wanted to reach out to readers, writers, and those with a dream of finishing “that” novel. I share the advice of other writers and the tools I use to create my stories.
