Ghost Towns

Friday is here again and I’ve been enjoying my change of career to focus on the creative part of my brain. My body is tired today because our show circuit has begun. It’s a satisfied tired because my energy went into creating new art pieces instead of managing a group of adults. My background noise consists of YouTube videos and Netflix shows instead of problems and people’s demands. The days of the whipping post for things gone wrong or marks on the chalkboard are only a faint memory.

This week lead me back to some vloggers who decided to mine for gold and buy lost ghost towns. Maybe I share the same sense of adventure and pursuit of a dream. Once you make the leap there’s no going back. There’s excitement and exhilaration right after you jump and start to fall off the cliff. Then, there’s moments of question and delusion. But having delusion is good. If we knew all the risks and rollercoaster ride, we would never take it or buy the ticket.

Sometimes being a little stupid is a good thing. I have to tell you, having the guts to give a big risk a reward on it’s own. Standing in the middle of the grocery store in the middle of the day with no time card to punch in made me feel like doing a dance in front of strangers. I thought to myself, I just did what 99% of people dream of doing right now but don’t. They’re all at work hating their job.

We all want to follow that dream but many of us don’t take the first step. Take the risk and give it try. Stop being afraid to fail. Just like the gold miners and those who buy abandoned towns, there’s days when you question your sanity and decision making skills but then you think about sitting chained to an office desk and that seems like the crazier option.

I have no idea where this new road is taking me and I’m okay with that because my talent is no longer sitting on the sidelines waiting for me. So, my question for everyone this week is, what are your ghost towns? Are there stories or things that you abandoned? Maybe they’re still waiting for you to find them again.

This is your writing prompt for the weekend. Pick up that pen and write about ghost towns, old westerns, or stories that have been waiting for you. Well, I’m off to another art and craft event tomorrow! Let’s hope the ghosts are alive tomorrow and appreciate art.
