When the clock strikes midnight, and NaNoWriMo ends my word count from last time hasn’t changed. I was able to create a new opening but my total ends at 19,000 words. I had the goal at 50,000 but welcome to the real life of a writer. Life and too many other projects didn’t give me a lot of time to focus on one novel. Why didn’t I reach my goal?
If you set a goal, then it’s good to review and reflect on how things went. Well, I did reach my count but not in the same book. I edited and formatted a book over 200 pages for two other authors, and I created, formatted, and edited a new journal that’s also over 200 pages for another published author. I also created a new journal for myself that’s around 150 pages – and I did write every word on those pages. I guess it’s not a total loss but my goal is spread out over several projects.
Do 394 blog posts also count? Okay, I’m pushing it. I guess this is my goal for December. I need to push my own writing even if I’m working on other projects because I don’t want my novel to turn into the never ending story. I know we all have those manuscripts collecting dust somewhere. Maybe this is my resolution for next year – to finish a few of the novels that sit unfinished.
One of my favorite times of the year begins tomorrow! December is finally here and decorations have popped up all over! If you’re looking for something to do for this Merry Month, then think about the 12 days for writing. What kind of prompts are you going to gift yourself? I know this month is busy but if you try, then I will as well. Let’s try for 12 days of writing together! Look for my 12 prompts throughout next month!
My posts are Monday through Friday.
