The Leaves Are Falling

It’s the middle fo the week and I woke up in the dark this morning. Did my eyes open at the right time? Driving my husband to work there was only a hint of pink in the sky this morning and my body has gone into hibernation mode. The sluggish feeling of winter has taken over and I’m noting a trip to the store this weekend to pick-up a bottle of vitamin D.

How do Minnesotans combat the fall and winter blues? Some people hit the tanning beds for some fake rays. They claim it helps their mood like a body sun lamp but I’m not one for UV therapy. I take the vitamin option. Others hit the gym for an endorphin boost. Most of us snuggle in our blankets and layer up. Long underwear is more visible on the shelves and our noteworthy flannel makes it’s presence known. Those hot lumberjack stories come from up North.

By the end of the winter, I look like a vampire who just woke from her coffin. My make-up foundation changed 2 shades like clockwork. I repeat to myself that it’s only a few months like many Minnesotans who want to move but never do. If you don’t complain about the weather, you’re not from here.

Driving through the streets leaves have changed from green to bright yellows, gold, and oranges. Some of them have started to fall as the trees get ready to sleep through the winter. I keep telling them to cling to their branches for one more week. I’m not ready for white flakes.

The same cycle of holiday excitement and dreading weather storms is upon us. I hope you’re writing and inking is going well. I’m playing catch-up on the weekends with the inking but my daily writing continues in my blog.

Your word prompt for today is Tick. This one might stump us but remember you can substitute if the image doesn’t create anything inspiring.

I’m an author in Minnesota who started out writing and illustrating Children’s books. I’ve published poetry and adult Romance Novels. I created my website and social media to reach out to other writers because the process can be lonely. I wanted to reach out to readers, writers, and those with a dream of finishing “that” novel. I share the advice of other writers and the tools I use to create my stories.
