The past few weeks it’s gone below zero during the night and I’m doing my best to stay warm. I’m not one of those who enjoys outside walks during the winter because I don’t like frozen limbs. Lately, I’ve been thinking about places I can escape up here without having to get on airplane. Where can I go green during the winter in Minnesota?
Well, I think I might need to drive over to St. Paul and walk around in the indoor conservatory. For a short time, I can pretend I’m walking in the tropics, surrounded by green trees with my fluffy pink coat folded around my arms instead of being marshmallow armor. The sun will stream through the windows and I’ll be able to get my vitamin D without freezing.
Maybe I’ll head to Central Park in Woodbury. This indoor space has walking paths, a waterfall, lots of plants, a library, theater and ice cream shop. I can sit on a bench in the middle of winter eating ice cream and pretend I’m somewhere warm. If only I could move this indoor park over to the Mall of America. Then, I could take daily indoor walks in nature without frozen toes.
There are a few options during the cold months up here. Some of us take up walking inside of local malls so that we don’t have to wear skates on the sidewalk. Yes, those who love winter sports and outdoors can go sit on frozen ice to fish. Some walk around the local ponds with ski masks and goggles. Believe it or not there are winter bike couriers and avid cyclists that put on fat tires and ride around in the snow. Yes, we’re a little different up here.
No matter where I go around the Twin Cities, I will have my books and drawing notebooks with me. I’m in my cozy era, where sit in comfort and warmth. Reading and drawing surrounded my plants and the sound of running water sounds ideal right now.
I’m still working on my goals to read more books and finish editing my next book during the winter months. The challenge of leaving the house and getting out of the house make take some hunting. Sitting outside typing in the falling snow doesn’t exactly work for my body or my electronics.
At least I have a few places to start. Maybe I’ll see you around the area. I’m off to explore.
