Still Writing In the Moonlight

The clock struck midnight and I didn’t turn into a pumpkin or a mouse. Instead my toes lowered out of my blanket to touch the cool air. I felt my body relax as I thought of cold sheets after the ride home in the sun. My new piece of happy this week was in the form of a sun visor for those who are shorter than average height.

Yes, a visor that lowered below the one installed in my car made me happy this week because I wasn’t blinded by the sun driving around in the early morning. The arm and hand I held up to block the sun between the trees also got a break. I could have put on sunglasses but my new makeup that cost too much doesn’t like being smudged. My nose is also lacking in height and I haven’t found a pair that didn’t leave lines.

As I celebrate my birthday this week another small joy of mine is an early present, a new foot massager. Coming home to a foot massage every evening is a another new treat. I can have some spa time while I’m eating dinner, or watching my daily videos. The heat setting doesn’t hurt either as the puffiness of the day is worked out of my feet. The only problem is not falling asleep when it’s done. For a few minutes I can feel like I have my own masseuse.

When I travelled to China and studied for a while, my one treat was going to the local bathhouses with a bunch of strangers for a foot massage after spending hours exploring the small village I was in. This was one of my secret places of survival with the locals. I could listen to the those who worked there chatter and gossip while I sat back in a cushioned sofa with those who lived in the village, hidden away. Warm soap and stronger fingers worked out the hours of walking while my classmates were studying or back at the dorms. Finding my own personal havens is something I always do when I travel.

Thinking about my hidden spots around the world, I definitely need to take the time to find some here. A few places I visit for a special treat are too crowded and noisy. I want the quiet of the locals, a cup of coffee, and good book that’s not interrupted by loud crowds. There’s something magic about finding a place before it becomes popular.

As I travel from cafe to cafe around Minneapolis, I may not share if I find a new place of tranquility. I’d like it to stay my secret place for a while. Maybe I need to find some dive or hole in the wall that scares off the trendy crowd. I guess my adventures here continue.

My prompt as I go into this weekend is to find a hidden gem not on the top 10 list of places to visit. It’s time to explore as I get ready for my next event. This is your prompt too as we end this week. Go out and find your own personal quiet space for a cup of coffee and a good book.

(My blogs times may vary for the next few weeks but the important thing is that I’m here.) My Monday through Friday posts will return regularly at the end of May!

I share the advice of other writers and the tools I use to create my stories.
