This is a big week and I’ve almost tired of looking at final proofs for my new Writing Journal before it’s published. The journal is over 200 pages and many of them are left with writing space for the writing prompts but I still need to go over the details. As I’ve heard from any literary agents at conferences and book fairs, we’re not the best editors. In fact, many of us are terrible at editing our own work. If you choose to self publish big or large projects, then have a friend read through your work a few times and read it out loud. What we think we’re writing doesn’t always make sense when spoken out loud. Also, I highly recommend hiring an editor for your novels. You may not need one if you’re going to write an article or a few shorts but for longer pieces it’s worth the effort.
Sometimes, we go through all the effort of putting something together and we get so excited and then we go to print our proofs and find out that we’re out of ink. Yes, this is me this week. My high capacity printer is out of toner. I’m waiting by the door today for the Amazon truck because I always print a final copy before it goes to publication. Just one more hurdle.
As we move into Friday, I have an announcement! I’m finally taking my road trip to the small town in Northern Minnesota tomorrow. The hotel is booked and I’m ready to fulfill another writing prompt. Instead of having to create a town out of my imagination, I’m going to a real small town that’s over 3 hours away from the cities. Remember all those prompts I posted? Well, I’m going to use them. My weekend will be filled with photo references, talking to locals, and wandering down Main Street. And I have to squeeze in a visit to the International Wolf Center. Let the Lore begin!
I’ll share my updates with you over the weekend! Let’s get road trip writing!
Follow as I post on my progress throughout the month and share the experience.
