Day #19 of NaNoWriMo – Day Trip
I’m doing another day trip today out of the cities and listening to other favorite authors on Audible.com to get in some novels by other writers.
As I work on my own novel, additional research has cropped up. I’m checking out road maps and real small towns in Minnesota. Taking of tour of my own home state is popping up new discoveries.
Why am I looking at real towns? Well, it all goes back to those moments when you want to go to places in the books you read, and then you find out that’s it’s not real. A real unicorn town doesn’t exist? I swore I would give my audience something real to hold onto so their search isn’t completely in vain. Yes, there are parts of fiction mixed with real places but I prefer to ground stories in places that someone can visit. It’s about creating a nostalgia, a real memory for someone.
What are you giving to your readers as you write your stories?
As the writer, the answer is up to you. Feel free to share in the comments.
