January Writing Challenge Day #5
The first week of the New Year is coming to an end and my resolution to Just Write is underway. Remaining disciplined has good days and bad days but pushing myself is easier because of the monthly challenges that I started last year.
My change in direction for my introduction continues to work. The following chapters will build and peel away at the onion as we move forward. Listening to my characters is going to be key. They’re going to tell me when it’s time to reveal and time to deepen relationships.
I keep telling myself that this is a novel. Not an American Netflix where you get right into it. I like steam but I’m influenced by other cultural styles. I want my audience to get so into the story that they cheer when just hold hands for the first or experience that first kiss.
At the same time, I don’t want my audience to have to wait too long where they get tired of almost feeling that passionate moment before it’s cut off. One question I ask while I’m writing is, does story stand on it’s own without the mush?
If you remove all the steam from the scenes, what are you left with? A story that shows the depth of their characters will still hold together.
I have my work cut out for me. Back to writing.
Follow as I post on my progress throughout the month and share the experience.
