Wandering

A new month has begun and I’ve been influenced by Hwang Bo-reum’s, Welcome to the Hyunamdong Bookshop. Wouldn’t it be a wonderful job to sit and read in a bookshop all day filled with reading nooks, good coffee, and little notes of recommended good reads? How long would it take to read the all? What kinds of worlds would you enter?

Her novel asked many questions that I’ve had with my change in career. Do we ever know what we want to be when we grow up? Maybe we need to add, at the moment to the end of that question. Being an adult just leads to more questions. The same questions we had as children but with financial obligations and more responsibilities.

I’m still asking that question after quitting my 9-5 to pursue art and writing. I have work to do to get in more writing time but I’m working on it through this blog. The popularity of reading online may have dipped and moved to video format but I’m still here in black and white.

In this new year, I wrote out a goal list and it included more writing and reading time. The book’s I’ve blogged about have lead me to one of the few large book stores in Minnesota. This weekend I found myself wandering through the aisles of books at Barnes & Noble in the Galleria in Edina.

Some may call this spot off France Avenue posh, and I have to say the prices reflect upper-class but I’m here for the books and larger reading space. I should also mention that the staff there has helped me find some of my new reading materials this year.

What a way to finish the goal of finding a new reading spot and reading more books. I love checking things off a list. It’s a like a shot of oxytocin to the brain. What a change of lifestyle from my corporate job.

Imagine the feeling of freedom knowing that I can sip a chai and read at any time of the week without getting fired from my job. No permission needed. Does it pay the bills? Well, buying my prompt journals would help.

Aside from the plug, I felt like the bookshop owner this weekend as I pondered life and asked myself if I’m really happy with the changes I’ve made this past year. Right now, I have to say I wouldn’t change my decision regardless of finances. I choose to take a different path and go on a new journey.

Just like not wanting to take unwritten stories to the grave, I don’t want to take any dreams that I didn’t try to fulfill. In truth, I have no idea what kind of path I’ll turn onto next and I’m okay with not knowing. Sometimes, we just need to wander.

I hope you find some good reads this weekend. Until next time!
